The companies that signed the 'Gyeongnam Defense Venture Center', which help small and medium-sized enterprises enter the defense industry, generated more than 200 billion won in sales last year despite the difficult situation of Corona 19.

Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 10th that the Gyeongnam Defense Venture Center contracted companies achieved 211.7 billion won in defense sales and secured 13.5 billion won in national funds by selecting the technology development task from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

Gyeongnam Defense Venter Center was established in September 2009 under an agreement between Gyeongnam Province and Defense Technology and Quality Institute. Currently, it is jointly operated by Gyeongnam Province and the Defense Industry Technology Promotion Institute affiliated with the Defense Technology and Quality Institute. We are actively helping small and medium-sized enterprises and venture companies in the province to advance into the defense industry by providing customized support for the overall defense industry, from discovering tasks in the defense industry, developing specialized technologies, and securing education and sales channels.

It started with 18 contracted companies in 2009, the first year of its establishment, and increased to 54 last year. In the meantime, it has shown growth by maintaining and creating 9,215 jobs, including 883.6 billion won in sales in the defense sector.

In particular, last year, Bumhan Fuel Cell Co., Ltd. was selected as a key component localization development project by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration . Also 23 contracted companies, including Suoptics, Daewon Electric, Elekcom, and Neo-Health Technology, received 22.4 billion won in government funding.

Bumhan Fuel Cell achieved rapid growth by expanding its business area to fuel cell modules, achieving sales of KRW 21.4 billion through the delivery of fuel cell modules for submarines last year.

Suoptix developed a high-magnification zoom sight in 2019 and received support from the Gyeongnam Defense Venture Center to establish a commercialization strategy and discover tasks. Since the agreement, defense sales have grown 170 times.

Seongsan Technology also achieved a contract to supply Hanwha Defense Co., Ltd. for a supply of 18 billion won for 6 years for a remote sampling and supplying device including a lever and a motor assembly in a constant velocity drive device applied to a new CBRN reconnaissance vehicle developed in 2016. .

“The Gyeongnam Defense Venture Center support project is a project that supports the participation of excellent small and medium-sized venture companies in the region in the defense field with high entry barriers,” said Cho Hyun-joon, director of the Industrial Innovation Bureau of Gyeongnam Province. We will do our best to become a new growth engine for the local economy,” he said.
